Mysore Starter - 3 classes per week 

Mysore Traditional - 6 classes per week

Mysore Master - 6 classes per week PLUS 1 private with Krista


Union Yoga teaches Ashtanga yoga, which is a yoga method that promotes weight loss, vitality, mental clarity, stress reduction, deep relaxation, and overall health and wellness to the practitioner. When you practice this yoga style consistently you will lose weight and gain strength, balance, endurance, flexibility, concentration and so much more.

Ashtanga Yoga is a 5,000-year-old discipline that explores, develops, and integrates the body, mind and spirit. Ashtanga yoga purifies the body, the nervous system, the internal organs, and the mind through the use of vinyasa (breath with movement)asana (physical postures)deep breathing, and Drishti (looking place or gaze). Practising yoga asanas purifies, strengthens and gives flexibility to the body. Performing deep breathing purifies the nervous system. Drishti is the place where you look while performing asanas, or postures in order for you to concentrate on one specific place; also helps to stretch the eyes. The goal of incorporating Drishti to your practice is for purification and stabilisation of the mind.

This unique program is suitable for beginners as well as longtime practitioners because every student is taught individually. In other words, each student is given a one-on-one lesson within the classroom setting in order that he or she can progress through the Ashtanga Yoga series’ at their own pace and according to his or her individual needs. 

For these reasons, it is arguably the most effective and enjoyable way to properly learn Yoga. You do not have to keep up with anyone else, you do not have to keep looking up to the front of the room to see what the teacher is doing so you can haphazardly try to mimic him/her; you do not have to feel foolish as if people are watching you to either see what to do next or to compare themselves to you. 

In the Mysore classroom no one else is watching you but the teacher, as other students are focused on their own personal practice. It takes all the intimidation out of yoga.

At Union Yoga our Mysore classes are taught by highly experienced yoga teachers who are dedicating their lives to practising, studying and teaching traditional Ashtanga Yoga.

This is the way that yoga is taught by our teachers, Shri K. Pattabhi Jois and R. Sharath Jois in Mysore, India and why it has come to be known as “Mysore Style” teaching. 

Timings are flexible and students may begin practising any time after the posted start time provided they finish by the end of class. 

New students attending Mysore class should allow approximately 45 minutes for practice. As strength and stamina build more of the sequence will be taught and one’s practice will gradually lengthen.

Krista Shirley is a level 2 authorised Ashtanga Yoga teacher and the founder of The Yoga Shala in Orlando, Florida.
